THE GATE OF INNER HAPPINESS
Asher, whose name means “happy” or “blessed,” received a blessing of abundance: “Let him dip his foot in oil… as thy days, so shall thy strength be” (Deuteronomy 33:24–25). This gate teaches the way of quiet radiance, not through accumulation, but through alignment with the eternal Way.
Laozi, the sage of the Tao, embodies the spirit of Asher’s gate. He taught wu wei—effortless action—and the harmony of all life flowing in natural order. His way is the soft that overcomes the hard, the empty that is full, the humble that is great.
▶︎ Revelation Tie-In: “They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more… for the Lamb shall lead them unto living fountains of waters.” — Revelation 7:16–17
STATION 8 — THE GATE OF ASHER
A river flowed without striving.
A blossom opened without command.
The sage sat under the plum tree, unmoved and radiant.
And the Gate of Asher opened—
Not with trumpet, but with a breeze.
Not with conquest, but with contentment.
The way was not shown. It was known.
The Tao was not grasped. It was lived.
▶︎ Revelation Tie-In: “And he shewed me a pure river of water of life… proceeding out of the throne of God.” — Revelation 22:1
QUALITIES NEEDED: SERENITY AND SIMPLICITY
To pass this gate, one must stop striving. Asher does not reward ambition, but presence.
- “Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10
- “Manifest plainness, embrace simplicity.” — Laozi, Tao Te Ching 19
The gate opens when the soul becomes like water—clear, still, and flowing with life.
INNER REQUIREMENT: TRUST IN THE UNSEEN FLOW
Asher requires faith in the Way, even when it defies logic.
- “The Tao that can be told is not the eternal Tao.” — Tao Te Ching 1
- “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” — Hebrews 11:1
This gate is for those who trust the current, even when the shore disappears.
GNOSTIC PARALLEL: THE SILENT LIGHT
Gnostic mystics speak of the ineffable source—silent, formless, radiant. In the Gospel of Truth, joy comes not from knowledge but from returning to the simplicity of being.
- “His rest shall be glorious.” — Isaiah 11:10
- “They knew not Him, nor did they recognize the one in whom they dwelt.” — Gospel of Truth
Asher leads back to the stillness from which all joy arises.
WHAT TO BRING: YOUR EMPTINESS AND YOUR SMILE
Bring no armor. No argument. Only openness.
- “Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.” — Matthew 5:5
- “When nothing is done, nothing is left undone.” — Tao Te Ching 48
The Gate of Asher opens to those who walk with light hearts and wise hands.
MELCHIZEDEKIAN INSIGHT: THE PRIESTHOOD OF HARMONY
The inner priests of Asher are masters of gentleness and refinement:
- Zhuangzi — the laughing mystic who taught the freedom of the uncarved block.
- Confucius — the wise teacher of ethical harmony and cultivated virtue.
- Lü Dongbin — the immortal Taoist adept of light and alchemy.
- Paul the Venetian — Chohan of the Third Ray, patron of art, beauty, and the heart flame.
- Lord Lanto — keeper of wisdom’s flame, gentle yet luminous.
These are priests of joy who speak not thunder, but wisdom’s whisper.
▶︎ Revelation Tie-In: “Her light was like a stone most precious… clear as crystal.” — Revelation 21:11
CONTEMPLATIVE REFLECTIONS
- Am I living in harmony with the natural flow of life?
- Do I chase happiness, or do I let it arise naturally?
- Can I trust that simplicity leads to fullness?
PRAYER FOR PASSING THROUGH THE EIGHTH GATE
O Eternal Way,
I come to the Gate of Asher.
Still my striving.
Teach me to flow.
Let my joy be without cause.
Let my actions be without force.
Make me clear as water,
Soft as wind,
Strong as love.
Amen.
THE FLOWING PATH OF BLESSING
Asher does not conquer. He overflows.
He does not force. He invites.
The Gate of the Happy One opens with a smile,
A still heart,
And the remembrance that nothing is lacking.
This is the Gate of Radiant Simplicity.
To pass, stop striving.
And start flowing.
